“Graduation is one of our department's most treasured occasions,” noted HMS Ophthalmology Chief and Chair, Joan W. Miller, MD. “Friends, family, and faculty come together to reflect on our graduating trainees' achievements, honor our dedicated faculty educators, and celebrate this important milestone. I am pleased to congratulate our newest alumni, the class of 2016."

Dr. Miller, along with Carolyn Kloek, MD, Director of the HMS Residency Training Program, and Peter Veldman, MD, Associate Director of Residency Training, presented certificates to the resident graduates. Dean Cestari, MD, Director of Ophthalmology Clinical Fellowship Training, presented certificates to the clinical fellows. Several awards were presented, including teaching awards, service recognitions, and resident research awards (see below). The Junior residents presented a comic skit, the Senior residents presented photos and a slideshow, and the clinical fellows presented a video and slideshow, along with a tribute honoring beloved faculty member, Simmons Lessell, MD, who passed away in May.

“We are incredibly proud of this year's graduating class of residents and were thrilled to celebrate with them and their families at the graduation ceremony on June 16th,” said Dr. Kloek.   “They are an impressive group of trainees moving on to some of the best fellowship training programs in the country.”
