We had great turnout, participation and honors given to our faculty during ARVO’s annual meeting earlier this month. Our department contributed a total of 261 submissions, which included 48 papers, 184 posters, 5 educational courses, 4 symposia, 4 mini symposia, 12 special interest groups, 2 cross sectional group sessions, and 2 workshops. Kudos to Janey Wiggs, Reza Dana, Pedram Hamrah, and Demetrios Vavvas who were this year’s top faculty contributors. Our faculty garnered some prestigious ARVO honors, including the 2015 Proctor Medal awarded to Pat D’Amore and the 2015 Mildred Weisenfeld Award for Excellence in Ophthalmology awarded to Joan Miller.

In another exciting awards “sweep” three Mass. Eye and Ear/Schepens faculty ― Simmons Lessell, Reza Dana and Magali Saint-Geniez – were selected to receive 2013-2014 HMS Excellence in Mentoring Awards. The awards recognize the value of quality mentoring relationships and the impact they have on professional development and career advancement in clinical medicine, teaching, research and administration. See details in our [Awards](#mentor) section. Congratulations to all!

Last month we launched Ey*e Advisory*, a new clinical newsletter that will be mailed twice a year to 18,000 AAO members nationwide who are practicing ophthalmologists. The newsletter offers practical and relevant best practice information from Mass. Eye and Ear specialists and will feature a different disease topic each issue. Our inaugural issue focuses on ocular trauma and includes key recommendations from a report prepared by ophthalmology faculty from HMS and BU who were involved in emergency response efforts following the Boston Marathon bombings last year. Yoshi Yonekawa, MD, is lead author of the paper, which is now in press at the journal *Ophthalmology*. Published biannually in the spring and fall, Eye *Advisory* also will help to raise our national profile about Mass. Eye and Ear’s benchmark practices in clinical care. Many thanks to Eye *Advisory’s* Managing Editor, Matthew Gardiner, and our Clinical Advisory Group: Carolyn Kloek, Deeba Husain, Ankoor Shah and Angela Turalba.
