 Dr. Stefater earned his undergraduate degree *magna cum laude* from Centre College. He later earned his MD and PhD from the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Cincinnati, where he also completed a pre-doctoral fellowship in angiogenesis regulation with support from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Passionate about ophthalmology, Dr. Stefater demonstrated a strong work ethic, sound clinical judgment, a great knowledge base and a compassionate bedside manner throughout residency. He is a talented and dexterous surgeon with exceptional diagnostic skills. Dr. Stefater’s retinal research has resulted in several publications and two patent applications. Additionally, he and Dr. Tomasz Stryjewski co-founded Pykus Therapeutics, Inc., which is developing a dissolvable intraocular device to make retinal surgery more comfortable for patients. He was awarded a 2017-2018 Heed Fellowship. Following graduation, Dr. Stefater will remain at Mass. Eye and Ear for a Vitreoretinal Fellowship, under the direction of Dean Eliott, MD, and John Miller, MD.
