[Eric Pierce, MD, PhD](/ericpierce "Eric A. Pierce, MD, PhD"), the William F. Chatlos Professor of Ophthalmology at HMS, is receiving the 2026 Llura Liggett Gund Award, the Foundation Fighting Blindness' highest honor, for his pioneering work in gene discovery, genetic diagnostics, and therapeutic development for IRDs. He has led landmark efforts, including AAV-RPE65 therapy and the first human CRISPR-Cas9 trial for CEP290-related retinal dystrophy, helping shape translational IRD science.

Beyond his scientific contributions, Dr. Pierce has shown exceptional commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and service through the Foundation over the last 25 years, including serving on its Scientific Advisory Board and supporting early-career researchers. He will be formally recognized at the Foundation's Retinal Therapeutics Innovation Summit in May.
