 

#  Alumna Eve Higginbotham, SM, MD, ML, to Present Edward Jackson Memorial Lecture

Eve J. Higginbotham, SM, MD, ML, a Mass Eye and Ear alumna and member of its Board of Directors, will deliver the 80th annual Edward Jackson Memorial Lecture at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2023 annual meeting opening session on November 4. The Jackson Memorial Lecture—considered one of the most distinguished lectures in the field of ophthalmology—honors the legacy of Dr. Edward Jackson (1856–1942), a prominent ophthalmologist whose contributions include popularizing the use of the retinoscope and developing techniques for examining the eye.Dr. Higginbotham is the inaugural Vice Dean for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics and Professor of Ophthalmology specializing in glaucoma. Dr. Higginbotham is a highly respected leader in academic medicine, an exceptional clinical scientist, and a dedicated advocate for social justice and inclusion, diversity, and equity.
