 **[Zhongjie Fu, PhD](/zhongjiefu)**, received a grant from the Blind Children's Center in Los Angeles in the amount of $25,000 over 1 year, for her project, "FGF21 protects against hyperglycemia-associated ROP through modulating energy metabolism."

 **[Neena Haider, PhD](/neenahaider),** has received a grant from the American Macular Degeneration Foundation in the amount of $150,000 over two years for her work on AMD.

 **[Ahmad Kheirkhah, MD](/ahmadkheirkhah)**, received a grant from the Eversight Center for Eye and Vision Research in the amount of $15,000 over one year for his project, "Neuropeptides for improving graft survival in corneal transplantation."

 **[Gabriel Kreiman, PhD, MSc](/gabrielkreiman)**, received a grant from the National Science Foundation in the amount of $300,000 over two years for his project, "EAGER: Top-down processes to extract meaning from images."

 **[Gang Luo, PhD](/gangluo),** and **[Kevin Houston, OD, MSc](/kevinhouston),** received a National Institutes of Health Small Business Innovation Research Phase II award in the amount of $950,000 over two years for their work completing the development of a mobile app to measure strabismus. Gang and Kevin, along with [Shrinivas Pundlik, PhD](/shrinivaspundlik)**,** and **Matteo Tomasi, PhD**, founded EyePhone LLC, which is the primary recipient of this award.

 **Sharad Mittal, PhD**, Senior Research Associate in the laboratory of [Sunil Chauhan, PhD](/sunilchauhan), received a 2017 Richard Lindstrom Research Grant Award from Eye Bank Association of America in the amount of $5000 over one year for his project “Hepatocyte Growth Factor-Mediated Promotion of Corneal Graft Survival.”
