 **[James Akula, PhD](/jamesakula),** is the subcontractor PI for an NIDDK R44 (Small Business Innovation Research) grant in the amount of $39,156 over one year for the project, "Measurement of retinal nerves and blood vessels as markers for Type I diabetes." He is working with PI Mircea Mujat of Physical Sciences, Inc.

 **[Gena Heidary, MD, PhD](/genaheidary),** received a 2018 Discovery Award in the amount of $25,000 over one year from the Children's Hospital Ophthalmology Foundation in support of her ongoing Saccadic Vector Optokinetic Perimetry (SVOP) studies.

 [**Aparna Raghuram, OD, PhD**,](/aparnaraghuram) received a 2018 Discovery Award in the amount of $25,000 over one year from the Children's Hospital Ophthalmology Foundation in support of her research on concussion and learning disability.

 **[David Sullivan, PhD](/davidsullivan),** received an NIH R21 grant in the amount of $541,750 over two years to evaluate cationic amphiphilic drugs for the treatment for meibomian gland dysfunction. Additionally, he received a sponsored research agreement for $59,480 from Allysta Pharmaceutical to explore a hormone's effect on human meibomian gland epithelial cells.

 **[Mary Whitman, MD, PhD](/marywhitman),** received a 2018 Discovery Award in the amount of $25,000 over one year from the Children's Hospital Ophthalmology Foundation in support of her ongoing project, "Genetic causes of ptosis and oculomotor synkinesis."
