Ryoji Amamoto, PhD, an Instructor in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, has been selected to receive a Child Health Research Grant Award from the Charles H. Hood Foundation. These highly competitive awards provide $200,000 over two years to support scientific research and advance the careers of promising scientists at premier New England medical and health institutions that are engaging in research that can impact child health. Dr. Amamoto's award will fund his research on Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic, blinding disease that afflicts millions worldwide and often develops in childhood and adolescence. Specifically, Dr. Amamoto and his team aim to promote cone photoreceptor survival in order to prolong healthy daylight color vision for patients suffering from the disease
