This **[endowed chair](http://eye.hms.harvard.edu/professorships/)** was established in honor of **[Henry Willard Williams](http://eye.hms.harvard.edu/henrywillardwilliams)**, first Professor of Ophthalmology and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. This professorship is held by the current [department chair](http://eye.hms.harvard.edu/position/chair), who concomitantly serves as Chief of Ophthalmology of [Massachusetts Eye and Ear](http://eye.hms.harvard.edu/masseyeandear) and [Massachusetts General Hospital](http://eye.hms.harvard.edu/massgeneral).
