Dr. Stefater earned his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Centre College. He later earned his MD and PhD from the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Cincinnati, where he also completed a pre-doctoral fellowship in angiogenesis regulation with support from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Passionate about ophthalmology, Dr. Stefater demonstrated a strong work ethic, sound clinical judgment, a great knowledge base and a compassionate bedside manner throughout residency. He is a talented and dexterous surgeon with exceptional diagnostic skills. Dr. Stefater’s retinal research has resulted in several publications and two patent applications. Additionally, he and Dr. Tomasz Stryjewski co-founded Pykus Therapeutics, Inc., which is developing a dissolvable intraocular device to make retinal surgery more comfortable for patients. He was awarded a 2017-2018 Heed Fellowship. Following graduation, Dr. Stefater will remain at Mass. Eye and Ear for a Vitreoretinal Fellowship, under the direction of Dean Eliott, MD, and John Miller, MD.
