After earning a BS in Biology from the University of Miami, Dr. Diaz pursued medical training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. While in medical school, he was awarded a Global Health Research Fellowship and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. During his research fellowship, Dr. Diaz conducted studies at the Aravind Eye Hospital and L.V. Prasad Eye Institute in India as well as the Sancti Spiritus Provincial Ophthalmology Center in Cuba. His research included work on vitamin deficiencies in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome and the epidemiology of ocular toxoplasmosis and uveitis in Cuba. This resulted in several publications as well as written and oral presentations at the annual ARVO 2014 and American Uveitis Society meetings. After earning his MD with Distinction in Research, Dr. Diaz completed his medical internship at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.
