2023 Neuro Oph Fall Festival 2023 Strabismus Symposium

Harvard Ophthalmology, in conjunction with Mass Eye and Ear and Boston Children’s Hospital, hosted its biennial Strabismus Symposium and Neuro-Ophthalmology Fall Festival events on October 20-22. These two information-packed conferences brought together 200 people over three days for interactive case panels, engaging round table discussions, and didactic talks.

The Strabismus Symposium, led by course directors Dean M. Cestari, MD, and Gena Heidary, MD, PhD, kicked things off on Friday with unknown cases, discussions on techniques and advances in strabismus surgery, and didactic lectures by expert strabismus surgeons. The event also featured a keynote presentation from guest of honor Hilda Capo, MD, the John T. Flynn Chair in Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami.

The Neuro-Ophthalmology Fall Festival, led by course directors Joseph F. Rizzo, MD, and Tais Estrela, MD, a Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus fellow at Boston Children's Hospital, began on Saturday morning and featured a complete overview of the latest diagnostic techniques, new medical therapies, and surgical advances to improve neuro-ophthalmology clinical and surgical outcomes. The event also included a special tribute to Shirley Wray, MD, the matriarch of neuro-ophthalmology and the former director of the Neuro-Ophthalmology Service at Mass Eye and Ear.

Thank you to our conference course directors, Drs. Cestari, Heidary, Rizzo, and Estrela, and our events team, led by Christina Stetson and Danielle Smith, for their hard work putting together these two events.
