2025 Faculty Retreat
On April 4-5 2025, the department hosted its Faculty Retreat in Providence, Rhode Island. With nearly 200 research and clinical faculty in attendance, the retreat was a unique opportunity to bridge institutional gaps and forge new connections across the department.
The retreat began with an exploration of the evolving landscape of healthcare innovation.
- Mehul C. Mehta, MBBS, MS, an Instructor in Ophthalmology and Founding Member and Senior Advisor at Albright Stonebridge Group, discussed the current landscape of global healthcare.
- Samarth Kulkari, PhD, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at CRISPR Therapeutics, provided a perspective on innovations in biotech.
- David Ting, MD, Chief Medical information Office at Mass General Physicians Organization, presented emerging data on the use of digital healthcare.
In the afternoon, Susan Slaugenhaupt, PhD—Scientific Director of Mass General Research Institute—and Meredith Fisher, PhD, MBA—Partner, Mass General Brigham Ventures—examined strategies for bridging academia and industry from each viewpoint, respectively. Through expert-led discussions, faculty gained insights into research, investment, and entrepreneurship, and discussed how groundbreaking ideas move from discovery to real-world impact.
On Saturday, Margaret Andrews, MS, Founder, The MYLO Center, led an interactive workshop that dove into the true essence of great leadership. The lively discussions and breakout sessions provided fresh insights into self-awareness, communication, and the path to becoming a more effective leader.
