Laurel Tainsh, MD, MHS—New Leadership Role in Quality

Dr. Laurel Tainsh

Laurel Tainsh, MD, MHS, Instructor in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, has been appointed Ophthalmology Vice Chair of Quality and Assistant Chief Medical Officer at Mass General Brigham (MGB), effective November 1.

Dr. Tainsh brings extensive experience to this expanded leadership role. In her former role as Department Quality Chair, she has worked closely with Ophthalmology leadership and the office of the CMO. Together, they have advanced patient safety initiatives, ensured our department delivers the highest quality of care, and continued our two-decade program with our annual Quality and Outcomes Report. Dr. Tainsh is a highly regarded comprehensive ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon, and a graduate of our residency program.

In her new role, Dr. Tainsh now reports to William T. Curry, MD, Academic Medical Centers Chief Medical Officer, and Rishi P. Singh, MD, Harvard Ophthalmology and MGB Ophthalmology Department Chair. Her primary responsibilities will include overseeing quality and safety, credentialing and privileging, provider performance excellence, patient experience, health equity, professionalism, and clinician wellbeing for our department. She will work closely with Alice Lorch, MD, MPH, Associate Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Mass General Hospital and Mass Eye and Ear.
