Congratulations to the graduating class of 2020. This year’s ceremony—designed for safe social distancing—featured residents in-person with a live broadcast via Zoom, followed by a virtual-only graduation for clinical fellows on June 18. The ceremony celebrated eight Harvard Ophthalmology residents, the AY 2019–2020 Chief Resident and one optometry resident, as well as 24 clinical fellows from Mass. Eye and Ear, Joslin Diabetes Center, and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Joan W. Miller, MD, Chief of Ophthalmology at Mass. Eye and Chair of Harvard Ophthalmology, noted that “Based on the resiliency, compassion, and creativity that each and every one of our residents and fellows has shown—throughout their training and especially during COVID-19—I know that they will be thoughtful change agents who will help lead us into a brighter future.”

Several faculty and staff were also honored during the ceremony. Jo-Ann E. Haney-Tilton, MD, EMHL, received the Clinical Teacher of the Year, while Kristine Tan Lo, MD, received the Surgical Teacher of the Year Award. Ophthalmology Residency Program Coordinator Scot Morrison received the Residency Appreciation Award. And Thaddeus P. Dryja, MD, was recognized with the Simmons Lessell Excellence in Education Award.
