Deeba Husain, MD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, received the 2022 Harvard Ophthalmology Excellence in Mentoring Award for her dedication to mentoring both clinical and research junior faculty and trainees.
An accomplished retina surgeon, clinician scientist, and teacher, Dr. Husain helped to discover two novel treatments for wet AMD—photodynamic therapy and anti-angiogenic therapy—and has pioneered the field of research in the important role of Metabolomics in AMD.
Generous with her time, Dr. Husain is known to be a focused and present mentor, committed to helping her mentees develop their careers and ensure they continue on an upward trajectory. Since joining Harvard Ophthalmology in 2013, she has formally mentored more than 50 medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty members.
