Dong Feng Chen, PhD, and Lucy Shen, MD, Awarded NIH R01 Grant for Glaucoma Research

Dong Feng Chen, PhD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Associate Scientist at Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass Eye and Ear, and Lucy Q. Shen, MD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at HMS and Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship at Mass Eye and Ear, began collaborating two years ago to investigate the role of autoimmunity in patients with glaucoma. They will continue this collaborative research with a five-year $3,472,430 R01 grant from the National Eye Institute to investigate the immune mechanisms underlying neuron loss in glaucoma. Joined by Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Jianzhu Chen, the goal of this project is to provide scientific foundation for the development of mechanism-based diagnosis, prevention, and treatments for glaucoma.
