Eli Peli, MSc, OD, Honored by New England College of Optometry

Eli Peli, MSc, OD, has been recognized by his alma mater, New England College of Optometry (NECO), as one of its 2024 Distinguished Alumni. This honor is given to NECO alumni who have exemplified excellence, embraced their role as compassionate caregivers, exhibited an unwavering dedication to the field of optometry, and made a profound impact on their communities.

Dr. Peli, a leading expert in vision rehabilitation research, was the first to propose and test the use of computerized image enhancement as a visual aid, and has developed numerous optical visual aids used around the world. His principal research interests are image processing in relation to visual function and clinical psychophysics in low vision rehabilitation, image understanding, and evaluation of display-vision interaction.

A Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Peli is also the Moakley Scholar in Aging Eye Research at Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass Eye and Ear. He is a past recipient of the Glenn A. Fry Lecture Award and the William Feinbloom Award from the American Academy of Optometry, the Alcon Research Institute Award, and the Oberdorfer Award in Low Vision from ARVO, among many others.

Karen G. Carrasquillo, OD, PhD, a Harvard Ophthalmology alumna, was also recognized by NECO as one of its 2024 Distinguished Alumni.
