Luis Martinez-Velazquez, MD, PhD, Receives Madden Fellowship in Retina
Luis Martinez-Velazquez, MD, PhD, is the recipient of the 2024-2025 Thomas J. Madden Fellowship in Retina. This fellowship was created to support a clinical retina fellow, while honoring the legacy of the late Thomas J. Madden, who was instrumental in securing the successful outcome of patent-related litigation that resulted in the landmark judgment for Mass Eye and Ear against QLT, Inc. and Novartis. The award has enabled major advances in research and teaching and has supported new infrastructure and recruitment across the department.
Dr. Martinez-Velazquez earned his medical degree at NYU School of Medicine before joining the Harvard Ophthalmology Residency Training Program. He is in the second and final year of his Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship at Mass Eye and Ear under the direction of Dean Eliott, MD, John Miller, MD, and Nemo Patel, MD.
