Marisa Tieger, MD, Receives Madden Fellowship in Retina
Marisa Tieger, MD, is the recipient of the 2022-2023 Thomas J. Madden Fellowship in Retina. This fellowship was created to support a clinical retina fellow, while honoring the legacy of the late Thomas J. Madden. Tom was instrumental in securing the successful outcome of patent-related litigation, resulting in the landmark judgment for Mass Eye and Ear against QLT, Inc. and Novartis. The award has enabled major advances in research and teaching and has supported new infrastructure and recruitment across the department.Dr. Tieger, who served as the AY 2020-21 Chief Resident and Director of the Ocular Trauma Service, is currently a second-year vitreoretinal surgery fellow at Mass Eye and Ear, training under Dean Eliott, MD, John B. Miller, MD, and Nimesh (Nemo) Patel, MD. Throughout her training, she has proven to be an excellent surgeon and teacher with an interest in ocular trauma. After fellowship, Dr. Tieger will join the faculty of New England Eye Center/Tufts University School of Medicine.
