We are thrilled that Mass. Eye and Ear, the primary affiliate hospital of HMS Ophthalmology, and Mass General Hospital, where we lead the Ophthalmology Department, have been ranked #1 by U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals 2015-2016.
This year’s report ranked Mass. Eye and Ear’s Department of Otolaryngology as the best program in the country, based on factors such as quality of care, patient safety and reputation among board-certified otolaryngologists. The Department of Ophthalmology, which by extension includes several of the HMS affiliate hospitals, remains ranked #4 in the country among Best Hospitals for Adult Ophthalmology, and #1 in the northeast. Unlike data-dependent ratings for most medical specialties, rankings for ophthalmology derive solely from subjective reputation scores, which are given by board-certified ophthalmologists registered with Doximity, an online physician network. Participants in the voting are asked to list the top five hospitals to which he or she would refer their most complex and challenging patients.
We are very grateful for the confidence and relationships that underlie this recognition. Congratulations to all who made this possible through excellence in patient care, research, and education!
