Rani Al Karmi selected as 2017 Alcon Research Scholar

Rani N. Al Karmi, MD, FRCS(c), M.Ed, a research and clinical fellow in Cornea and External Disease at Mass. Eye and Ear, was selected as the 2017 Alcon Research Scholar. This award provides support to a trainee to allow them to work on a translational research project with a senior clinician scientist at Mass. Eye and Ear. Dr. Al Karmi will work with Reza Dana, MD, MSc, MPH, on a project entitled, “Keratocytes Growth Promotion in a Novel Adhesive Biomaterial for Repair and Regeneration of the Cornea.”  This project will study the effect of natural growth factors, such as epidermal growth gactor (EGF), as chemical initiators for the migration of recipient keratocytes into newly developed biomaterial for faster healing and wound modulation.
