Sila Bal, MD, MPH, Receives Cornea and Refractive Surgery Research Award

Dr. Sila BalSila Bal, MD, MPH, a PGY-4 ophthalmology resident, is the 2021 recipient of the Best Clinical Trainee Research Award in Cornea and Refractive Surgery. Presented by the Harvard Ophthalmology Cornea Center of Excellence, this award honors the resident or clinical fellow who has conducted the best research, as judged by a committee, in cornea or refractive surgery.

In the past year, Dr. Bal has published seven papers, including six as first-author. She has presented her research at several events, including the 2021 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, the 2020 Women in Ophthalmology Summer Symposium, and the 784th Meeting of the New England Ophthalmological Society, where she was awarded second prize in the Hecht poster contest for her poster, "Differences in cataract surgery outcomes by race and gender.”
