Zhigang He, MD, PhD, Receives Vision Restoration Initiative Award

Zhigang He, MD, PhD, Professor of Neurology and Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and a researcher at Boston Children’s Hospital, received a 2022 Vision Restoration Initiative Award from the Gilbert Family Foundation. These awards support the development of therapies to restore vision loss caused by neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow along the nerves.

Dr. He will receive $1,204,897 over the course of three years to explore novel strategies of protecting retinal ganglion cells and their axons in NF1 optic pathway glioma models.
