Ophthalmology Resident, Class of 2026

Dr. Hursuong Vongsachang received her AB, summa cum laude with highest honors, in Human Evolutionary Biology from Harvard College. After college, she worked as a Public Health and Outcomes Research Associate at the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine, where she coordinated public health screening projects for research in the Social Emergency Medicine Program. She went on to earn her MD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, as well as MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, earning induction into the Delta Omega honor society. Throughout medical school, she gave back to her community through the Student Sight Savers Program, a medical student-led community vision screening program, where she served as Follow-up Director. She received the CaRING Award from the Johns Hopkins Alumni Council for excelling in leadership activities and positively impacting the campus and community.  

As a medical student, Dr. Vongsachang’s research focused on investigating topics in public health ophthalmology and vision health equity, primarily the delivery of school-based vision care, using both quantitative and qualitative methods. She received funding from the National Institutes of Health TL1 Predoctoral Clinical Research Program. Her work during medical school was recognized with awards including the Rising Visionary Award from Prevent Blindness, the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute Stuart and Ellie Fine Award, and the Dana Center Award from Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute Dana Center for Preventative Ophthalmology. She is the author of over 20 publications, many as first author, in peer-reviewed journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, and Ophthalmic Epidemiology. She has also presented her work nationally and internationally at conferences including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and American Academy of Ophthalmology.
