Jonathan Lin, MD, PhD

Jonathan LinDr. Jonathan Lin graduated summa cum laude from Emory University with his BS in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology, as well as his BA in Music with a Violin focus. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa, Nu Rho Psi, and Phi Sigma honor societies, and was a Robert W. Woodruff Scholar and a Barry M. Goldwater Scholar. As an undergraduate student, he performed research in the Department of Neurology, and spent several summers as an intern at the US Air Force Research Laboratory, Applied Biotechnology Branch, for which he received Civilian Performance Awards.

He went on to earn his MD and PhD in Neuroscience with a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Investigation from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. For his PhD thesis, he examined the pathogenesis of retinal neurodegeneration under the mentorship of Dr. Rajendra Apte. He served as co-president of Washington University’s Ophthalmology Interest Group. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the Dr. William Ellis Award, the Kipnis Award in Biomedical Sciences, and the Ceil M. DeGutis Prize in Chemical Biology or Medicinal Chemistry.

To date, he has published over 25 peer-reviewed manuscripts in distinguished journals, including Cell Metabolism, Cell Reports, Ophthalmology, and JCI Insight. He has presented his work internationally at conferences such as Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), Association for Clinical and Translational Science (ACTS), Cell Symposia, International Symposium on Retinal Degenerations, and International Multisensory Research Forum.

He co-founded and served as Inaugural Camp Director and Regional Director of Camp Neuro, a summer day camp for high school students interested in learning about the care and maintenance of the brain, as well as psychology. He was also a First Violinist in the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra from 2013-2020.
