May 3, 2023

Anne B. Fulton, MD, Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Science at the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry commencement ceremony on May 25.

An exceptional clinician scientist, Dr. Fulton is an international expert in the pediatric retina, and is Principal Investigator of the Infant Vision Laboratory at Boston Children's Hospital. Her research on the development of human retinal and visual processes has been funded by the National Eye Institute for more than four decades. Dr. Fulton's current research focuses on constraints that the photoreceptors and neural retina place on visual and refractive development in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).

Dr. Fulton's clinical practice is at the intersection of pediatric ophthalmology, medical retina, genetics, and neuro-ophthalmology, and depends heavily on the knowledge of retinal and visual processes established by her research.

Dr. Fulton is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. Since 1988, she has trained dozens of research fellows and mentored the research projects of more than 20 clinical pediatric ophthalmology fellows and numerous medical and graduate students.
