Christian E. Song, MD, Honored with Norman Knight Leadership Award

Dr. Christian SongChristian E. Song, MD, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, was recognized with the 2023 Norman Knight Leadership Development Award in Ophthalmology at the Mass Eye and Ear Trustees Meeting this week. This award is funded by long-time philanthropist and Mass Eye and Ear supporter, Norman Knight, and provides important financial support for promising junior faculty leaders. 

 

A generous and committed teacher, Dr. Song mentors and supervises ophthalmology residents and is a key teacher as they learn cataract surgery. Thanks to his thoughtful approach to teaching this important surgical milestone, Dr. Song is one of the highest regarded cataract teachers within our department. 

 

Since joining the department in 2015, Dr. Song's leadership and collaborative spirit, combined with his expertise in laser-assisted cataract surgery and applying new technology to medical and surgical education, has made an immeasurable impact on our residency program. 

 

Dr. Song is known for his initiative in improving our training program and providing excellent feedback to our residents. He truly cares about each trainee and invests a great deal of his own time to ensure their success.

 

In October 2022, Dr. Song was named Associate Director of the Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Cataract Consultation Service, where he continues to demonstrate that he is a highly capable emerging leader.

 

Outside of Mass Eye and Ear, Dr. Song is involved in our national professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and International Society for Refractive Surgery. His involvement in these organizations is a testament to his academic reach and national impact.
