Lloyd Paul Aiello, MD, PhD, to Receive J. Donald M. Gass Lectureship Award

Lloyd Paul AielloLloyd Paul Aiello, MD, PhD, Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Beetham Eye Institute at Joslin Diabetes Center, will be honored with The Retina Society's 2023 J. Donald M. Gass Lectureship Award. Established in 2006, the Gass Award is among the most prestigious awards in the field of retina. Dr. Aiello will give a special award lecture at the Society's Annual Meeting in New York City in October.

Throughout his career, Dr. Aiello has made significant contributions to eye research and the field of medical retina that have dramatically changed our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for ocular angiogenesis and vascular permeability. His translational research has led to the development of therapies that have improved visual outcomes in patients with diabetic retinopathy, neovascular age-related macular degeneration, central retinal vein occlusion, and other retinal vascular disease. Dr. Aiello's clinical trial design and implementation through the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network, telemedicine initiatives, and novel retinal imaging modalities have also had a global influence on the evaluation and care of diabetic eye disease.
