Dr. Michael GilmoreMichael S. Gilmore, PhD, Sir William Osler Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and Chief Scientific Officer at Mass Eye and Ear, recently received a five-year, $11,409,360 Program Project (P01) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease to extend funding for the Harvard-wide Program on Antibiotic Resistance. Dr. Gilmore is Principal Investigator for this program, which has received more than $40 million in NIH funding since its inception in 2009.

The program supports multiple investigators across the Harvard landscape to understand the mechanistic and evolutionary basis for antibiotic resistance, and to develop new approaches for treating antibiotic resistant infections. The integrated research projects focus on infections caused by antibiotic resistant pathogens including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and vancomycin resistant enterococci.
