Paulo Bispo, PhD, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and Assistant Scientist at Mass Eye and Ear, received the 2022 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Mallinckrodt Uveitis Research Fellowship. This $45,000 fellowship award will fund Dr. Bispo's project to develop a rapid and unbiased metagenomic sequencing approach to detect uveitis pathogens. This novel test could substantially improve diagnostic yields and help to illuminate new causes of infectious uveitis in cases that remain undiagnosed after extensive laboratory workup, with great potential for significantly changing the management of patients with this debilitating disease.
