Recently received grants - January and February 2018

The Alcon Foundation Board renewed a grant in support of the Alcon Research Scholar program in the amount of $230,850 over three years. The renewal is for July 1, 2019 -June 30, 2022. The objective of the Alcon Research Scholar position which is to provide protected time for young clinician-scientists to train under the guidance of distinguished and experienced vision researchers on clinical and translational research areas in ophthalmic sciences while the candidate is completing their clinical training in their chosen subspecialty areas.

Anne Fulton, MD, received a renewal for her National Eye Institute R01 grant in the amount of  $3,147,290 over five years for her project, "Photoreceptors in ROP," to continue her work elucidating the neurosensory retina's involvement in ROP in children with a history of preterm birth.

Grace Lee, MD, and Jia Yin, MD, PhD, received Caring For Dependent(s) Travel Awards from the Center for Faculty Development at Massachusetts General Hospital in the amount $500. These awards support travel by defraying the cost of additional care expenses, such as extended day care, extended elder care, or caregiver travel, while the recipients travel to an academic or society meeting in 2018. Dr. Lee also received the Scholarly Writing Award  from the CFD in the amount of $800 to cover the expenses of child care needed to aid in  preparation and submission of a major manuscript in 2018.

ARVO Foundation selected Emiliano Terán-Bobadilla, PhD, Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa in Mexico, for a 2017 Collaborative Research Fellowship.  Russell Woods, PhD, Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass. Eye and Ear, will serve as mentor and collaborator on their project, "Information acquisition as a biomarker to evaluate the vision impairment due to glaucoma."  This $10,000 fellowship promotes international scientific interactions and innovative research by pairing researchers from developing countries with U.S. scientists for a one-year project.
