Volunteer for the URiM Mentorship Program

July 31, 2023

This spring, Harvard Ophthalmology faculty and trainees volunteered their time to introduce undergraduate students who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM) to ophthalmology and provide mentorship. More than 35 students from Harvard College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology participated. Four faculty members spoke as part of the program's Virtual Shadowing Series; and 26 research fellows, residents, and medical students volunteered as mentors.

The Harvard Retinal Imaging Laboratory URiM Mentorship Program was initiated in 2021 by research fellows under the direction of John B. Miller, MD. It is currently led by Edward (Ned) Lu, MD, a PGY-2 ophthalmology resident, and research fellows Augustine Bannerman, Douglass Bryant, Jenny Gan, Grace Baldwin, Jocelyn Rodriguez and Kira Wang. If you're interested in volunteering to host a virtual shadowing session or serve as a mentor for the Fall 2023 semester, please contact Jocelyn Rodriguez.
